Mommy, that smells like old lady water...and other musings

Two days ago in the bathtub, the Princess requested Calgon be sprinkled in her bath water. I obliged her accordingly and went to sit down to read my book. Not five minutes later, she said rather matter of factly "Mommy, this smells like old lady water!". How she knows what old lady water smells like, or even where that came from we may never know. I did learn something new though....if you use Calgon with aloe in it, my daughter will think you smell like an old lady!

Today was my fourth month check up. Nothing really big to report, other than I mustered up the courage to go to my appointment alone this time. The hub has gone to every one of my appointments up until now but today he had to stay home-he was being held hostage by a horrendous sinus infection and a five hour window set by the GE repair man that was coming to fix our dryer. So, I braved the doctor by myself. I was sure that today we would get the results from my Nuchal Translucency test that I had done last month. This is the test that determines if you are genetically predisposed for certain abnormalities.

Now, barring the USUAL weirdness that runs in both sides of our family, I am not really worried about this. BUT with me being adopted you never know what you are going to get. SO, I worry (a little bit). Any who- it turns out, I was still to do part deux of the test and that meant more blood work. I was told that the ultrasound that they did last month didn't visually show anything abnormal..and that I had a perfect baby (I like to repeat that...those were his words not mine...but just as I suspected-as if EITHER of my children were anything but!). However since the blood work goes hand in hand-we will receive the test results at my next appointment in October.

The baby's heart rate was 144, and the baby is right where it should be in my uterus or so I am told. So that is ALL good. Down side you ask? Well I have gained 13 pounds and while my doctor isn't worried about it because I am so tall, he says the bigger I get..the bigger baby I yield. He wants me to cut back on carbs..and only gain total 25-30 lbs. You do the math...lets see I am FOUR months pregnant, I have FIVE more to go- if I kept gaining at the rate I am...I will go over a smidgen but still going over. So, I am going to do my best to follow his instructions, do some more exercising..and eat better, also upping my protein intake-back to protein powder for me! Gone are the bowls of Grape Nuts at 9pm....all for the greater good!

No ultrasound today, but next time for sure. My doctor said this is the one we can determine the sex of the baby. I said NOooooo and he was pleasantly surprised he said "GREAT..good for you guys!" Nice to have a nod in our direction. :)

Monday is my birthday- I will be 27 for the (ahem...) 8th time. Technically I think last year didn't count as I lost my entire birthday due to Hurricane Ike thank you very little! No power = no birthday party or fun stuff for the Mrs also; the lack of avaliable gasoline, clear roads and rising and standing flood waters might have put a damper on things!

But this year is different. This weekend the hub is taking me out for a fancy little dinner, the Princess will be at her daddies house. Saturday I get to go celebrate one of my most favorite people in the whole world. Kahla's (who for those of you who don't know, is my ex husband's sister of whom I am still very close with) baby shower for Emery (who is coming NEXT MONTH) is on Saturday. I haven't seen Kahla in a while so it will be nice to catch up with her and her mom and grandmother (aka the Princesses grandmother, and great grandmother...aka DUCHESS and NANA) and then Sunday I get a family dinner! I guess turning 36 I mean....27 isn't so bad after all! I am kind of looking forward to this birthday!

Have a great rest of the week! And for those of you in Pendleton.... Let'r Buck!.....man that makes me home sick! Think of me while you are enjoying the Rainbow and Round Up weekend!!! I can almost hear the Main Street Cowboys Calliope now!
